OK, maybe we don't have to teach our children The Golden Rule.  After all, we already encourage them to share…be nice…don't hit…be kind and considerate…and so on.  Some kids will remember all those lessons...and some won't.

But instead of teaching lots of different lessons on how to be a good person...why not just teach The Golden Rule.  It's easy to remember and it is a very personal thing. Every time you interact with others you ask yourself, “Would I like that?”

With this in mind, my Bobby's Buddies community service today is to first, startle you and then encourage you to help our kids learn a simple rule to guide their behavior.

In the next few days do this, take a survey.  Ask kids if they know The Golden Rule.  Write down how many you ask and how many know the rule. This is the startling part because like my friend and the 6th graders he asked, not many will.

Next, for all of September, I want you to teach The Golden Rule to as many kids as possible. I have a link on my Bobbies Buddies.org web site to a terrific Golden Rule graphic that shows each major religion and how they express this good-will-to-all sentiment.

Then at the end of September, send me an email and tell me your story.  I know it will be a fascinating...and rewarding experience for you…so just imagine what it will do for the kids.
